The Creators with Janet Lance Hughes
Interview with Janet Lance-Hughes
For 50 years, Jigsaw has collaborated with talented creators and sourced beautiful materials from around the world. We believe celebrating craft, authenticity and integrity of design is as relevant today as it was in 1970, when we began our journey. We continue our Creators series with British Artist and Fashion Designer, Janet Lance Hughes, who led the Central Saint Martins Fashion, Design and Marketing course at CSM for over 15 years. She continues to inspire future generations of Creators.

When did you know you wanted to be an artist?
As a 6 year old First Prize winner for my painting of a horse… imagine what that looked like!
What is the source of your inspiration for your artworks?
My inspiration is in craftsmanship.
Tell us about your creative process?
My process is to thrash around with experimental techniques then see what emerges. This takes me in all sorts of directions.
What is your proudest moment to date?
Seeing my protégées make a success of life gives me multiple proud moments.
What has kept you inspired through the last year?
Time to firm up scant knowledge through research and to experiment has been wonderfully inspiring.
What are you looking forward to most over the next few months?
Longing to see happy faces together in the warm Spring sunshine.
Why did you choose these pieces from Jigsaw?
There is very little now that I would not choose from this collection. Having worn the pieces for the photo shoot I am utterly seduced by their chic cut, fabric handle and super comfort. Accessories are light and beautifully detailed. My photographer was super impressed with the designer quality and easy pricing. There was a lot of serious desire in the air! Thank you it’s been a joy.
