Introducing Nettie Wakefield

This month, we step into the world of British artist Nettie Wakefield, a creative force known for
her intricate pencil drawings and thoughtful exploration of themes like femininity and modern culture. Trained at Wimbledon College of Art and celebrated for her distinctive “Reverse Portrait” series, Nettie’s work has featured everywhere from Banksy’s Dismaland to the walls of Jealous Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. Join us as we discover how Nettie sees the world, and how she draws it.

In this Tastemakers episode, we spent the day with Nettie as she moved through the spaces that shaped her artistry. From the quiet focus of her studio to the cultural energy of her favourite London haunts, her day-to-day is a balance of discipline and intuition, revealing a practice rooted in both precision and imagination.

At the heart of Nettie’s process is a fascination with the overlooked, the quiet, the subtle, the reverse side of things. Whether she’s sketching in solitude or engaging with the public through exhibitions and collaborations, her work invites a closer look. It's this same attention to detail and curiosity about the world that aligns her so naturally with Jigsaw’s own design philosophy: thoughtful, considered, and always with a
story to tell.

"My mum always wore Jigsaw. She has this amazing jacket that I still wear and that’s vintage Jigsaw now. It’s gone full circle.”
