When in York
There’s no place like York to visit as the leaves turn and autumn draws in. This medieval walled city is nestled in the heart of North Yorkshire with cosy eateries, cobbled lanes and plenty of history to discover. Our York store team lent us their local guide to the best hotspots around the city.
First things first
It’s hard to miss this charming green 18th century building, home to our York Jigsaw store. Located on the picturesque Stonegate, it was formerly Greenwoods antique dealer where Her Majesty Queen Mary once visited.
As well as contemporary womenswear and accessories, our team are on hand for any styling tips or queries.
Coffee Break
Nice To See You is a family run cafe and bistro, ideal for a quick pit-stop ahead of exploring the city. And if the name isn’t inviting enough, the cakes in the window will entice you in.
Local tip
A daily occurrence in York’s city centre, The Shambles Market is the perfect place for picking up a bouquet of fresh flowers, discovering unique flavours from the street food stalls and taking inspiration from artisanal crafts on display.
Out to lunch
When it’s time to refuel, Kiosk is one for food and art lovers. A recent addition to the burgeoning Coffee scene, this small spot is part gallery, part coffee shop, serving up fresh lunches, brunches and cakes.
Afternoon stroll
Burn off the meal with a visit to the magnificent York Minster. Since the 7th century, this Gothic cathedral has been at the centre of Christianity in the north of England and today remains a thriving church rooted in the daily offering of worship and prayer.
Dinner Date
Whether dining solo, for two or with loved ones, Lucia’s brings a taste of the Mediterranean to Yorkshire. The cosy, fashionable interior is definitely worthy of a few snaps with a lounge for both creative and classic cocktails.
Highlights
Within walking distance from Lucias, discover the oldest pub in York dating back to 1644, Ye Olde Starre Inn, as well as Guy Fawkes Inn, birthplace of the notorious plot, Guido Fawkes.
