Timeless florals are reawakened for spring

Print stories: In full bloom

Miranda Priestly once scoffed 'Florals...For spring? Groundbreaking.', yet florals still continue to reign the catwalks, reminding us of lighter days ahead and the enduring joy of nature.

A trip to Kew Gardens back in the summer inspired our in-house team, who took polaroid photos of the many varieties in full bloom. Upon returning to the studio, they got to work exploring different ways a floral print could be reimagined. After looking through the pages of one of Cy Twombly's photography books filled with his expressive still-life photos of flowers, they digitally printed one of the polaroids onto a plain white T-shirt. An idea blossomed...

These polaroids were then digitally blown up to create new distorted and dreamlike effects, as if looking at these flowers from a rain-soaked window. A natural thing suddenly became hyper real, depicting a flower in a virtual world. It was this concept that shaped the new Misty and Dreamy floral print, echoed across dresses, tops, skirts and scarves.

Another floral print for the season has been loaned to us by the French textile design archive, Bianchini Ferier. A graphic rose print is seen across a midi dress and skirt, digitally printed onto a beige and sky blue cotton with a contrasting outline for a beautiful juxtaposition of colours. Each one of these prints works in harmony with our bespoke palette for the season.
