Style Notes: The Silk Trench

We return for another episode of Style Notes with Creative Director, Jo Sykes. This time, it's all about the Nelson: the limited edition trench coat cut from pure silk with a water-resistant finish.

The Shape

“The shape of the trench is iconic. It's called the Nelson, we named it after Nelson's Column. It's got beautiful, exaggerated proportions. It's oversized, but it's got that cinched in waist. You can belt it, which gives it a really feminine silhouette.”

The Design Process

“The creative process starts when we brief our sketches into our pattern makers, who are part of our in house atelier - we work together to make sure the shape is just right and then we hand make it in different fabrics until we find the perfect one.”

The Material

"I think what's gorgeous about the fabric is that it's a beautiful silk twill but it's got a beautiful weight to it. It's fluid but it's got enough substance to sort of tailor and make up beautifully."

The Colours

“We've got this amazing electric Schiaparelli pink, which is just totally show-stopping and the kind of thing that you can almost wear as an outfit, belted with nothing underneath. Or you've got the black, the ultimate investment piece. Really nice, tailored chic every day.”
