Building your Capsule Wardrobe: Winter Skirts

Just because winter has graced us with its presence doesn’t mean you have to give up skirts. In fact, they’re ideal for looking fabulous in the colder seasons; you just have to know which ones to choose and what to wear them with.  Here’s some inspiration to get you started.

LOVE THY MIDI

Consider lengths at a time like this. Something midi gives an elegant touch to everyday outfits and you can wave goodbye to tights, with the right boots of course.

Pick a leather pair with a heel that’s easy to walk in; and most importantly, make sure they sit proportionately higher than the ankle for a flattering silhouette, like our Aysha Midi Boot.

MASTER THE MINI

Styling the classic mini skirt requires a lot more layers. Firstly, find a straight cut or A-line shape. Next, layer up. Black tights, 60 denier or above, polo necks and coats that fall below the knee are all welcome.

WHATEVER THE LEATHER

A timeless piece, the leather skirt brings energy to your wardrobe all-year-round.  Go for a finer piece of knitwear with a slight relaxed fit so you can tuck the hem into the front of the skirt. It’s that simple.

SAY YES TO WOOL

Take cosy to whole new lengths with a wool skirt. The natural fibre looks just as good around the office as it does for casual weekends.

When styling this piece it’s an opportunity to play with shapes, textures and details. Whether it’s back buttons, wrap features, tabard jumpers, ponchos or chunky ribs, the knitwear world is your oyster, so live in it.

TRUE COLOURS

It’s a good idea to invest in colour, but make a wise investment with wintry hues. This season, our collection of skirts sees navy, redwood and metallic, easy to mix or match throughout the winter and spring months.

Team with similar tones for a subtle statement.

PRINTS AND PATTERNS NEVER FADE

Never underestimate the power of prints and patterns. The right floral patterns look just as good in winter as they do in the summer. Again, a lot of it comes to colours, but things to look out for are abstract designs.

If you’re looking for something completely opposite to florals, try classic checks. When styling, match with tops in similar designs or go for something simple one neutral shade..
