Men’s Style Update: Autumn’s Six Must-Have Picks

Start thinking about updating your Autumn Winter wardrobe with some help from our menswear team

31st August 2016

Not to wish summer away just yet, the best time to buy new pieces for your Autumn Winter wardrobe is at the start of the season. Wait too long, and that cashmere blend jumper may sell out. We asked our menswear team to pick one design from our latest collection and tell us why it’s their favourite piece for autumn. Here’s what they had to say…

BLOOMSBURY ITALIAN WOOL MOHAIR SLIM FIT SUIT

Tom Saunders, buying manager

“Every man needs a tailored suit for each season. A perfect all-year-round piece, this expertly tailored suit is woven from a luxury blend of superfine wool and kid mohair from a prestigious Italian mill. This season, we’ve opted for a softer shoulder construction and side vents at the back of the jacket; these details add comfort but also enhance the silhouette of the suit.

THE INDIGO DENIM SHIRT

Claire Smith, menswear designer

“One of my favourite pieces this season is this sturdy Indigo Denim Shirt. It’s made from heavy cotton twill which gives it a masculine feel and a robust finish. Ideal for autumn and winter, it’s destined to become an old faithful wardrobe staple.

THE CASHMERE BLEND FISHERMAN RIB JUMPER

Zana Goleshi, buyer’s assistant

“Autumn is all about investing in luxury knitwear. Our fisherman rib jumper is knitted from a cashmere blend. Not only soft to touch, it’s timeless and versatile enough to wear casually or under tailoring. Layers are important in autumn; you can never be too sure what the weather will bring, so it’s best to go from something warm with breathable qualities.”

THE ITALIAN DOUBLE FACE WOOL COAT

Hannah Ward, assistant buyer

Coats are a key piece for autumn. When you spot a design you can wear almost every day, you know it’s the right one. Woven in Italy, our double faced fabric is practical for the new season; it will keep you warm when it’s cold and cool enough when it’s hot. This coat has the talent to be worn for formal or smart occasions.”

THE ROUND COLLAR MELANGE SHIRT

Francesca Jones, junior merchandiser

“I chose this piece because autumn is a great time to subtly introduce texture to your wardrobe. This particular shirt’s texture has a luxurious feel and is a reliable piece to transition from summer to autumn.”

THE TONAL STRIPE SHORT SLEEVE CREW NECK

Catie Palmer, design assistant

“Inspired by artists Agnes Martin, the soft palette of underlying neutrals and contrasting stripes makes this classic crew neck easy to wear. The pure cotton and simple tones combine to work for hot and cool days. It also goes well with jeans, another autumn go-to.”
